I’ve noticed that more people are calling out coworkers for using AI at work, saying things like, “It’s lazy” or “It will make you slow and dumb.” It makes me wonder if this is where we are heading, or is it just a misunderstanding of what technology is meant to do for us?
Think back to when smartphones first became popular. People said, “Why would I need a GPS? I know my way around!” Today, most of us can’t imagine traveling without GPS. It’s not because we’ve become dumb, it’s because GPS lets us focus on the bigger picture and helps us avoid traffic jams.
The same goes for cars. Remember when cruise control was a big deal? Now, we have features like automatic speed adjustments and parking assist. Does this mean drivers have become weaker? No. We’ve adapted and moved forward, letting these tools handle the boring stuff so we can focus on driving safely.
AI is no different.
It’s a tool that can save time and reduce stress, letting us focus on what really matters. Whether it’s drafting a report, brainstorming ideas, or analyzing data, AI doesn’t replace our skills, it boosts them. You still need to guide your AI assistant to get the help you need.
Refusing to use these tools because of pride or fear might actually hold us back. Progress is about finding smarter ways to get things done, not working harder just to prove a point.
The real question is, are we ready to make room for change, or are we letting our assumptions stop us from growing? Let’s use the tools we have to make life easier, not harder. Progress isn’t about rejecting help, it’s about knowing when to accept it and move forward.
