I’m back from a wonderful vacation with my family, and it’s time to dig into the Microsoft 365 sphere to catch up on what I’ve missed on the roadmap from Microsoft. This one is from late October, but still an important addition.
Microsoft has announced a great new feature for Microsoft 365: full-workload backup policies. This feature will allow organizations to automatically back up all Exchange and OneDrive users and SharePoint sites in their Microsoft 365 tenant. Even better, new users and sites will be automatically added to the backup policy as they are created. This is a feature, that according to me, should have been implemented from the first release of the product.

Without an automated policy, IT teams need to manually add every new user or site to the backup. This is not only time-consuming but also risky. If someone forgets to update the backup policy, important data might be left unprotected. This new Microsoft 365 feature reduces that risk by making sure all new users and sites are automatically included in the backup policy. It simplifies data protection and helps organizations stay compliant with data retention policies.
This feature will be available in preview starting March 2025, with a general rollout planned for June 2025.
This is good news. We skiped this just becuas this was missing!
